Subject: Cool Mapping Tools / Request For Hank
Posted by Braz on February 15, 2004 at 6:09 PM:

I know I've made this request before, but I wanted to present it again since there is now a specific application for this format of data.

For those that haven't seen it yet, Frank in Texas is hosting two outstanding mapping tools on his web site. The web sites give credit to the others that helped organize these tools. The first is the Automatic County Map Generator, and the second is the Automatic ZIP Code Map Generator. For those of us that tend to lean towards the "fanatic" side of Where's George, these are excellent tools to map out our hits.

The downside for these maps is that you have to spend quite a bit of time cutting and pasting from the listings by state of "by ZIP code" and "by county", and then more time maintaining these listings. It would be nice if Frank and Hank (hey, what a team name combination!) could coordinate a way to automatically generate the raw data format for these reports. I would gladly give up my 10 daily by-ZIP refreshes and my 10 daily by-county refreshes each day for one raw data format that could be fed into these tools. I would even be willing to chip in a little more to the FOG pool to cover the time required to coordinate this effort.

One last note ... I'm probably going to send Hank a couple of month's of FOG in Frank's name, just to show my appreciation for these two tools. Anyone else that thinks these are useful ought to do the same to thank Frank for his work.

Thanks for the consideration!
