Subject: What happened in 1969 that made the mint print so many versions of bills?...(m)

I was looking at the top 10 series of bills and noticed that there was reissuse of bills five times in 1969. There is a 1969,1969A,1969B,1969C,& 1969D series bills. Does anyone know why they had so many changes and reissues in 1969?
