Forced 'Opt-Out' for offenders!!!!! *laugh*

The topic of hit removals is quite cyclical. On occasion, I find some suggestions quite thought provoking (as I do this one). And I really appreciate some of the eloquently discussed posts included in this thread. It is a relief when the topic does not degrade into some flame war. Thank you very much. *smile*

The purpose of Where's George:
"Do you ever wonder where that paper money in your pocket has been, or where it will go next? This is the place to find out."

Mechanism:
The Where's George (WG) database (db).

Priorities:
1) Database integrity – If the db becomes too polluted with erroneous bill entries, the db will have less value (for all).
2) Reduce distractions – So that Hank and Team Aqua can add enhancements for user base (and maybe eat and sleep).

Distractions:
People who think they can outsmart the system and artificially inflate their scores and rankings.

Motivation:
Some people appear to be too competitive and value too much the George Score, and various ratings / rankings. Alternative: they are just screw-ups and like to wreak havoc [go away].

Possible Solution:
Remove the incentive for people to artificially inflate their scores and rankings. If you caught cheating, you will lose your scoring. Perhaps, they will discontinue their practices (or just move on to another site/hobby and harass someone else).

Proposed 'Opt-Out' features:
1) Allow individual users to 'Opt-Out'.
2) Hank could force an 'Opt-Out' for WG guideline abusers.
3) Not only would we flag the user's account(s) but also the bill(s) in question [ex. Geo-George bills]. The bills would not be used in the calculations of the George Score and various rankings i.e. 'Hit Rate' and not be included on 'Top bills with XYZ hits'. You get the picture? *wink*

Conclusion:
I embrace a little friendly competitiveness. But when it diminishes the data integrity and becomes a large distraction, hopefully something can change. So, presented before us are hits that appear to be illegitimate, but are legitimate. I try to look for the 'Win – Win' solutions. Allow the some of hits to remain in the db, but don't attribute any scoring, while possibly encouraging WG's growth by offering more robust bill histories (to all – including WG Newbies).

Disclaimer:
I have not seen the code. I do not know if my suggestions are possible and/or feasible.

Your humble assistant, *wink*

Good Luck & Happy Georgering!

Welcome

: Perhaps Hank could let those of that desire to opt out of the George rating? Then he would not have to worry about where our hits are coming from or if we are "cheating". He could then focus his valuable time on other activities.

: While wheresgeorge could be considered a contest, it really isn't. A newcomer today has virtually no chance of ever getting into the top ten overall. What will a user have when just starting in three years.

: What I really care about is where the bills go, not only after the first hit, but the second and third hits after that. If I only cared about their history, than I sure am doing a lot of work, having logged 3000 bills to have only seen 10 or so wheresgeorge dollars.

: When I lose the hits of bills because someone collected them and then logged them all at once, I lose that ability. And I should not be held liable for the actions of others.

: If I have no George rating, then no one will care about my hits except for me.

: Just a thought...

: EJ
