: I had a long talk with the reporter who wrote the St. Louis Dispatch article, now appearing in many other newspapers around the country.

: First, I must say that I am appalled by the behavior of some of you that sent her incredible hateful and mean email messages about her article. Sure, you can disagree with some of the things she said, but to turn it into a personal attack goes against EVERYTHING that Where's George? and I stand for. I don't ever want to her from ANY reporter that any WG user emailed or called them to launch a personal attack for something they may have written about Where's George?.

: Second, yes, I still think it was a good article. It poked fun at us AS WELL AS the Secret Service. There have been much worse articles and news stories - this one was tame compared to some of those. Alot of people have joined as a result of this story, regardless of what was in the article - people are free to decide for themselves if WG is something they want to do.

: Third, there is no such thing as bad publicity. And, as long as these articles continue to cover the Secret Service's point of view (as any good reported should do - add a balanced or opposing point of view), that is actually GOOD for us. Think about it - if no article ever mentioned the legal aspects or the Secret Service's point of view, don't you think that the SS could take matters into their own hands to get their point across? They could shut us down anytime they decide to, and I think it's fair to the US public to be informed about the *facts*. One *fact* is the nebulous "unfit to be re-issued" law. Another *fact* is that the SS doesn't like what we do. She was merely reporting *facts* that she found out. Who cares if she called us scofflaws or rascals? I sure don't - since I think there were much more important facets to the article that she got right.

: If you're offended, that's fine, but don't assume you speak for everyone or me, for that matter. And don't turn it into a personal attack on someone who was GRACIOUS ENOUGH to spend alot of time to interview many people, research the website, offer different points of view, and PRINT THE STORY TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ***FOR FREE***!!!

: She told me that she received many phone calls from the local St Louis area THANKING HER for writing that article, and introducing them to something they would not have found for themselves.

: The United States works because it is a free country, and everyone is entitled to their point of view. This country doesn't work when people take things TOO FAR and TOO PERSONAL and start attacking and hating people just for their point of view.

: Where's George? was and is meant to be a fun place for everyone. I really don't like to see this "dark side" appear everytime someone exercises their freedoms to speak their mind that happens to rub you the wrong way.

: -Hank
