Any stats on second hits?

If your overall hit-rate is 12%, does it follow that the rate for a second hit is 12% of the overall, i.e. 1.44% ? Continuing on, third hit-rate would be 12% of 12% of 12% and so on. Surely there's some factor I'm not considering?
