: : i turned images off and the button text was still there. just george went away. is this a browser difference? i am using ns 4.75. what browser are you using?

: I'm on NS 4.72. All I see in the left frame is the "image" icon at the top, an empty box, the "George's Top 10" thing, a bunch more empty boxes, and the "You are currently logged in...." box. The links have neither alt-text nor image icons, so there's no way to tell them apart.

: I should probably say something to the effect that I was in a hurry when I made that last post and it may sound a bit harsh, which wasn't the intent. I've just spent enough of the last couple of years listening to my s.o. the web designer inveighing against the use of images for text that I can no longer understand why anyone would ever do such a thing.... It goes against the entire philosophy of HTML generally, sacrificing accessibility for "look". (This sounds really weird that *I'm* saying that; it took forever to get it pounded into my head.) Never mind, Hank; I'm just distressed that you've gone over to the dark side. (Just don't rearrange the links--I've discovered that I'm obsessive enough with this site that I can click on the right empty boxes even without any labels on them!)

very curious. i even turned off java and java script and just lost the buttons lit state, but still had the text. i will never understand these differences, i guess. well, i hope that the alt tags will help you and anyone else that does not d/l images.

i do agree with you in the overuse of images on some sites. my main peeve is the websites that do not have the name of the site or organization in plain text, only in images. if one is not viewing images they cannot even tell what the site is.
