: My Mother has four (4) $20.00 bills in serial number sequence. The two (2) middle bills have no printing on the backs, but the two (2) outer bills ar normal. What is the value of these bills as a set? She also has another with no printing on the back but it's a different serial number. What would the value of that bill be worth? She's had these bills since somewhere around 1975 (Approx.)

The value will depend HEAVILY upon the condition of the bills. If these bills are in CU condition (perfectly new bills), then I would guess the value would be (if the bills are truly authentic) in the neighborhood of $1000. If the condition is below this, but still very good condition, then the value is probably closer to 1/2 of that.

Being that the set of 4 is sequential, I would assume that the bills are in CU (or at least AU) condition. This is a VERY good set of bills.

As for the singleton, it probably has a value of around $100 to $500 depending upon condition.

Again, these are just guesses. Making an accuate guess about what people will pay for errors (or fancy serials), is really a hit and miss battle. The error you list is a VERY dramatic error, and thus it does fetch a good high premium.

If you do look at selling this set, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a CGA grading done on the set. CGA is Currency Grading and Authentication, Inc. A company that grades (and authenticates bills). This set (if in very good condition) would be worth more if it was shown to be authentic, and has a professional grading done. There is also the CGC (Currency Grading & Certification, Inc) that does the same thing. Most bills that I have seen being sold that were certfied, have been done so be CGA.

Jim.
