According to site statistics, 289 Series 2009 $100 bills have been entered. In contrast, nearly 25,000 Series 2009A $100s have been entered.
Series 2009 is the first attempt at a colorized note, serials prefixed with J, that was canceled due to the low quality of the notes.
Series 2009A is the second attempt, which was "gotten right" by the BEP.
So did some Series 2009 notes survive the purge when the BEP was getting rid of defective notes, and they're actually circulating? The site statistics would seem to suggest this.
