I don't remember what channel it was on but I thought I would like watching it. BOY, was I wrong.
That guy was a real fruitcake. Anyone who thought they could live with Grizzly bears without endangering themselves has a problem with reality.
He did manage to live with them over 10 years but it caught up to him.
All they found left was his head and part of his arm with his watch still attached. His girlfriend was also eaten.
They did not have graphic film but the verbal description was more than I wanted to hear.
At the time of the attack he started his video camera but did not remove the lens cap. The audio of the attach was so graphic they did not play it but they described some of what was heard.
They found the bear that ate them and killed it and cut open it's stomach to retrieve the human remains.
Talk about reality TV.

I heard the story on public radio, then I saw part of the story on discovery I think.

I didn't see all of the video, just the last part of it. There were a couple clips of him just ranting into the camera. I see people like that walking around the streets just yelling, this guy was doing the screaming, alone in the woods.

I didn't catch the show but it was in the papers up here when it happened. You take your chances when your on their turf. A few yrs before I moved to a bush community a photographer got himself ate. He was forewarned by locals, even offered a firearm for protection. He declined saying he did his shooting with a camera. He pitched his tent up on Frosty Mountain smack dab on a well travelled bear trail. End of story.

I saw it on the Dicovery channel. To me he seemed a off, all that ranting. He said he has to protect the bears, it seems to me, they do alright by themselves.

well even though he was a fruitcake, you gotta admire the fact that he was willing to stand up for something that he believed in and actually take action.
that being said, i don't think he realized that even though he had given all the bears cute names, that they were still wild animals and eat things when they get hungry.

I saw it on the Dicovery channel. To me he seemed a off, all that ranting. He said he has to protect the bears, it seems to me, they do alright by themselves.
I kept seeing a preview of it where he was saying that - about being the only protection out there for the bears - and I couldn't figure out, protection from what?

I had no desire to watch it. I've been where bears are. Like flyerguy says, they do ok.
