General Tso's chicken

1 lb chicken thighs, boned and cubed
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup and 2 tsp cornstarch
5 dried pepper pods
1-1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp rice wine (http://server4.103092804.com/Release3/linkredirect.php?h=42127,263813,1118385350)
3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp soy sauce
In a large bowl, thoroughly blend the 1/2 cup of cornstarch and the eggs; add the chicken and toss to coat. If the mixture bonds too well, add some vegetable oil to separate the pieces.

In a small bowl, prepare the sauce mixture by combining the 2 tsp cornstarch with the wine, vinegar, sugar and soy sauce.

Heat 1-2 inches of peanut oil in a pan to medium-high heat (350-400o). Fry the chicken in small batches, just long enough to cook the chicken through. Remove the chicken to absorbent paper and allow to stand (this step can be performed well in advance, along with the sauce mixture, with both refrigerated).

Leave a tablespoon or two of the oil in the pan. Add the pepper pods to the oil and stir-fry briefly, awakening the aroma but not burning them. Return the chicken to the wok and stir-fry until the pieces are crispy brown.

Add the sauce-mixture to the pan, tossing over the heat until the sauce caramelizes into a glaze (1-2 minutes). Serve immediately. Serves 4, along with steamed broccoli and rice.

This was a good thread that RPO started, and it sank like a stone. I'd like to attempt to resurrect it and get some good recipies shared here!!

Cherry Tomato Salad

Original recipe, modifications will follow:

2 tablespoons oil (I use olive oil)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried Basil Leaves

2 cups cherry tomatoes cut in half

Combine first 5 ingredients to make dressing. Pour over tomatoes making sure you coat all the tomatoes. Chill for 30 minutes. Stir again and serve over salad greens.

Now, when I make this, I always use fresh basil and I use a lot more, treating it as a salad ingredient rather than part of the dressing. Because of that, I can also serve this as a stand alone small salad rather than pour it over the salad greens.

Also, I generally use this as a starting idea, but I've done this as a balsamic vinegar type salad rather than the lemon, etc... by just substituting ingredients. And, of course, you don't have to use cherry tomatoes as opposed to chopped full sized ones, but the cherry tomatoes form a lot less liquid of their own when you cut it, so to me it's preferable.

Toast.

2 slices bread
1 toaster
1 fire extinguisher

Remove bread slices from package. Place in toaster on "dark" setting. Press lever down. Wait thirty seconds and get bored. Walk to computer and check Wheres George forums. Laugh at something on Mad forum, get angry at something on Political forum. Write rebuttal taking about 2 minutes to do so. Wait 20 seconds to see if a reply comes readily. Smell smoke, run to toaster and put out fire. Curse, throw out broken toaster and look up recipe for cereal.

As TASTY as Boiled Owl sounds, for other perhaps tastier recipes, try the website Allrecipes.com. (http://www.allrecipes.com) , a website that has 1000's of recipes searchable by type (main dish, vegetarian, etc.) or ingredient. You can also create a Recipe Box (FREE!) where you can add your favorite recipes and be able to access them quickly. :)

Ahhh, I see you went to the same Culinary Institute as my roommate. Here is her recipe for Tortellini.

Remove tortellini from freezer and empty bag into boiling water.
Boil until Chicken Hawk comes home.
Throw boiled calimari in trash.
Order pizza.

I invented this as a child.

Ingredients:
1 package Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
20 frozen fishsticks

Directions
1. Prepare frozen fishsticks and macaroni and cheese according to package directions.
2. Cut cooked fishsticks into cubes and stir into cooked macaroni and cheese. Make sure fishstick breading completely disintegrates.
3. Eat entire pot as nobody else in the house is going to eat this crap.

I know this is an old thread, but good food never gets to be an old topic. Now that it's been a while, how about we resurrect this thread and get some more yummy ideas!

That recipe sounds a lot like my cooking(Jason's). So I thought I would add my very own special recipe. It is actually quite good too.

1 can of spagetti o's (you can have the ones with meatballs too)
some ranch dressing (add to taste)
Goldfish brand crakers ( about a handful or 2)
