Maybe so, to some degree, with Lucas's random political doctrine injected into the films.
"You do not want to sell Death Sticks"
"I don't want to sell Death Sticks"
"You're going to go home and rethink your life"
"I think I'm going to go home and rethink my life"

It's the fact that he took some of the best actors and turned them into plastic people just so that they would not mess up the CG!
Pah!!!! Bad director!!!! No Oscar.

I voted early on for Empire Strikes Back. Just browsing through now to see if anyone else has insulted Star Wars so I can give out some more negative reputation points...

The original, Episode IV. One of the best movies I've ever seen. _Empire_ is closely behind.
Granted, I haven't seen Revenge of the Sith yet- I really want to, and soon!
Ranking of all 5 that I've seen:
1. A New Hope
2. Empire Strikes Back. (An excellent sequel. Quite the Hollywood rarity)
3. The Phantom Menace
Tie- last: Return of the Jedi / Attack of the Clones. (Love element WAY overdone in Clones- wopuld have been a much better movie if that was toned down)

I enjoyed all of the movies, but the originals are the best because it was just a fun story. The second trilogy just had so much as far as expectations that it was impossible to come up with the perfect movies. I still enjoyed the second trilogy for the most part. I voted for Return because when I first saw the originals, this was the one that stuck with me as the most fun. As I have watched them more often through the years, I appreciate Empire Strikes Back for the drama and cliffhanger, but still have to go with Return of the Jedi for my favorite.

i would have said one of the original three episodes (4, 5, 6), but just recently after seeing number 3, i went back and watched 4-6 and was actually somewhat disappointed. i guess i've been spoiled by the modern computer graphics and such. the light saber battles in 4-6 were just plain boring after what we had gotten used to in 1-3.
i realize i'm going to take some flak dissing on classics here......(waiting for the inevitable)

No wait...that was Yoda. I think Vader closed it down.
I'm still waiting for the X-mas/Reunion Special.

Just kind of got tired of the whining, the I'm oblivious to reality, the I am not really evil but would destroy the Aliance because I'm so short sighted.. Also each book was way way to long for what actually happened. :D I might read the last book eventually.

ANH is such a classic. I loved the original trilogy. But RotS was pretty cool too. But I'd have a tough time choosing between puberty and Carrie Fisher and Dirty Old Man mode and Natalie Porter.

had to go with empire, the last gasp of the siths. if you are going to be evil, be plenty evil. not like that flip-flopping vader at the end of rotj. you can't destroy planets full of people, be a deadbeat dad (i have how many kids?!)and unleash that prissy c3po onto an unsuspecting galaxy and then get to hang in the jedi afterlounge. although i think big top annakin is being criminally overlooked...

Some people claim to like the SW - Christmas Special. I wonder how many of those people have actually seen that TV special? I saw it when it was first broadcast. I saw part of the show on tape once at a SciFi Con.

The Chrsitmas special was the one on the Wookie Home World, so it seems you have seen it. ;)
The Wookie world in ROTS was so not what I was expecting. What happened to the tall tall trees from the Xmas special and books? :(

Oh-h it was so hard to choose between "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi", but I eventually had to go with the latter. It's all about Jabba the Hut and the world of Endor with the funny little Ewoks! :D
