Top 100 Toys/Games of Yesteryear (http://tv.cream.org/extras/toys/) (thanks to fark.com (http://www.fark.com) for this link)

some of these toys/games are classics and are still around, but most no longer are. I know some of them I remember having or my friends having. :)

Wow, talk about some games and toys I haven't thought about in a while.
I think I still have in my house some where those little finger things that were number 100 on the list.

I love the little articulated robot arm. I didn't have one of those growing up but now I get to play with robots everyday at work.

We had one of those Mr Frosty type things, but it was shaped like Snoopy.

Great page.

I had quite a few of those toys on that list.

A few of those board games though are still on the market and I play them with my kids.

How cool! I haven't thought about many of my old games in years. The game that surprised me the most on the list was...Merlin.

I had one of these and just loved it. I remember playing with it on many a trips with my parents.

I'm surprised Lite Brite didn't make the list. But the best toy of all was my older brothers' Creepy Crawler Fright Factory. I played with that a lot when it was handed down to me. I made many (hundreds) creepy crawlers. I also inherited their Incredible Edibles machine (same as the Creepy Crawler thing but these you could eat). That was fun too, but you really couldn't play with the Incredible Edibles, because they were kind of soft and would pick up lint/dirt easily.Did anyone else have either of these toys?

I remember buying some of those toys for the kids. Some were even given to me when I was a kid by my parents. Brings back lots of memories. Good find Lisa.

Nice to see some games are good generation to generation. Weird to see some games considered nostalgic, and they weren't around when I was a kid but I purchased them for my children. Heck, I'm only 47 and my kids are 13-22.

A "Sting Ray" !! (all the cool kids had one - I didn't...)

Quite a few kids got mini-bikes, too...was this a fad (in the early 70s) where you lived, too?

I predate most of the toys on the list, but I had:

Sorry
Viewmaster
Tonka Truck (mine was a car-carrier)
Etch a Sketch
Battling Tops
Spirograph

My sister had an Easy Bake Oven...I would have thought that might have made the list...and Incredable Edibles, too!

Does it mean anything that Twister is #69?

I still have my Simon, #41.

I almost went over a cliff riding a mini bike. Hit the clutch vs the brake!!!

Same for Play-Doh and (The Game of) Life. Perhaps those were popular only stateside; this list is distinctly British. There are many items on the list that I've never heard of.

Is it a little ironic?

#69 is Twister.

I'm a bad, bad man! :D

I still have all my Tonka trucks. Did you know they make them out of plastic now??? WTF!?!? Saw that on TV the other day and just about flipped! I have about 6 or 7 of them, maybe more, including the fire truck. They're all down in the basement. You better believe they're coming with me when I get my own house.

I still have Guess Who. My girl and I played it a few weeks ago. Not as fun as it used to be.

We just recently got rid of our Perfection. Bummer.

We had Mousetrap. It got violent.

We had operation. It got violent. That bastard always managed to buzz and light up when you _just_couldn't_ have been touching the metal.

I've played Screwball Scramble at the educational supply store my sisters work at. Tough game.

I had magic rocks, and loved them. Wish I had some right now.

My Seamonkeys always died the first time I fed them. I followed the instructions _exactly_, but it was always the same, I gave them their first feeding, and they died.

Mine was just like yours... it was my first bike, a 3 speed one at that!. My dad owned a lawn mower shop and he traded a used lawn mower for it - I was one happy kid! He had to put a regular seat on it until I learned how to ride it, but after I got the hang of it, watch out! I had it from 2nd grade until I started Jr. High. Then I got a "girls bike", complete with the flowery basket on the front. I kept that one until I got a job during high school and bought one of the new-fangled 10 speeds... boy that was something at the time!

The only toys on the list that I had or played with were:
- Walkie Talkies, but an earlier style than in the photo
- ViewMaster, and probably over 100 reels
- played Twister a few times at a birthday party as a child
- Silly Putty - loved this one
- Operation, a Christmas gift from my brother
- Etch-A-Sketch!
- Spirograph - my very favorite (an early Art~4~Fun! at work here?)

Neat site, thanks for the memories!

I still have my Starbird. It's up in my closet. Geez, what memories. It's been about 28 years since I got that for Christmas. I think I'll go get a 9 volt battery, put it in the ol' Starbird, firing it up and well, uh, relive the old memories.

Thanks for sharing that, i even bookmarked it.

I'm a huge fan of Yesterdayland.com and wish it still existed. I wish someone had been given the chance to take it over. There was no warning that it was going. One day it was there, the next it wasn't.

Yesterdayland Cafe just isn't the same. Not well layed out, not organized, and no zillions of pictures and links.

.

I couldn't believe that when my wife told me that the Tonka trucks in the stores were made from plastic and had rubber edges.

I remember having the metal ones and they were able to take a good amount of abuse.

Oh well, these times they are a changin'

Cold rolled steel...just like a car body. My parents found my old ones (including the bulldozer, front end loader, and dump truck) in great condition in their basement. Excellent toys for my son to play with.

of both my dump truck and of my crane. one sad memory though... really wish i wasn't afraid of spiders. they invaded my crane so i ended up leaving it outside... i don't think i need to say what happened to it.

I also had one that wasn't Tonka. It was even stronger built and more realistic. It was one of those things that have a front loader(?) on one end and a scoop thingy on the other. I played with that thing for hours.

Tinkertoys should have been on the list. But, alas, they went the way of Tonka toys..not made like they used to be made...
