Middle Name Pride Day honors the seldom used middle name that often sets you apart from others. It was selected with care, so you should be proud of it.
Here's two big reasons to be proud of your middle name:
First, there are plenty of John Smiths and and Mary Jones. Its the middle name your parents gave you that makes your name unique.
Second, your parents chose your middle name with great care. It often was selected to honor a friend or relative. That person may have possessed certain characteristics that they want you to inherit.
Do you know why your were given your middle name? If not, todays the day to find out. If it was in honor of someone, find out a little more about that person.
Since I am fascinated by names - what is your middle name and why you were given your particular middle name?

Mine is Anne. It is after my godmother also named Anne. I've always enjoyed spending time with her and her family. I like the fact I have the "e" at the end.

My middle name is Deane.
As far as I know I was named after someone who my dad thought had a pretty name, so it just came with the first name.

I won't say what my middle name is because I hate it. It's a Japanese name but that is totally NOT why I hate it...it's because it shows how they DIDN'T even think about what my middle name should be..laziness if you will. The only hint I will give you is that the name has some similiarity to my first name. I would have loved a middle name like Mayumi or Yukiko or something!

My middle name is from my great-grandmother. She was Norma, so my parents tacked on a "n", and my middle name became Norman. Could have been worse.

Since I am a foster child, I have no idea why I was given my middle name. I don't like it and very few people actually know it. I think we discussed it once before and I actually shared it, but not today.
My older foster brother doesn't have a middle name at all. His parents couldn't think of one, so they just didn't give him one. What's funny is he's know most of the time as his first and last name together, because his last name sounds like many people's first name.
The only middle name we put any consideration into for the Okie girls was Pumpkin's. Her middle name is Irene in honor of my foster mother whose middle name was Irene. There's another post somewhere about this as well.

I won't say what my middle name actually is--not because I don't like it and not because I don't trust the WG community to NOT engage in identity theft--but I will say that it was my grandfather's surname. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea and passed away in 1996. He told me several times (before 1996 :D) that his father had been a ship captain and had changed the surname from a more German spelling.

Charles...the story is a bit different, it was someone my mother did NOT want to honor. I was originally to be named Charles Michael. My father was Michael Carl and my parents wanted to carry that on but not make me a "junior". My mother, though, changed it to Michael Charles because she "read about someone who was a murderer" named Charles.
(I had suspected that this was the notorious serial killer Charles Starkweather, who I thought was active around the time I was born, but actually he didn't start his killings until I was a year old. So Charles the murderer remains anonymous.)

My middle name is Jane. My mother put a lot of thought in to nameing my sister and I because most names were handed down in her family. She was tying to find a name that there was no one named. When she married my Dad she became the 7th Mary B and she hated tring to distinguish who. So she named me and guess what on her dad's side of the family they named a girl Nancy Jane. Then a few years ago I was working on genelogy and found a contact on my dad's side of the family and quess what - her daughter was named my exact maiden name. 1st, middle and last name. Both of these girls are younger than me; so does that mean I have 2 name sakes.

Louise. Mom thought it sounded good with my first name, Lisa, which was chosen because my mom heard it on a soap opera and liked it. :p Most of the older relatives had very French names, including my parents and they wanted us to have more American names.

Mine is Brian.... I was suppose to be a girl and out pops a boy. My parents were not prepared with boys names, so here is how I got my name.
Richard - Grandfather on my Mothers side
Brian - Name that meshed well with Richard and would give me the middle initial of B. This is so I will have the same initals as my Grandfather on my dad's side (His name was RB).

First, there are plenty of John Smiths
Too funny, my finace's name IS John Smith (No kidding)
My parents gave me a bad enough first name & I'm thankful for the fact they chose NOT to give me a middle name. And you would not believe the grief not having a middle name causes!

My Middle name is Alan. It was given to me just because My Mother liked it. No family ties. I liked so well that I gave it to my youngest Son as his middle name as well. It just seems odd to me that my Mother in Law's Maiden name is Allen and my Son in Law's middle name is Allan. Are there any other different spellings out there?

You think you have trouble? I was listening to the radio in the middle of the night the other night and heard of a woman named Marijuana Pepsi Crawford (Or some last name I've forgotten) She was born in the Hippy days--in the early 70's.I'm not sure why she hasn't changed her name however.
My middle name is Jean, named after my godmother, my Mother's younger sister. My Sister's middle name is Bertha named after her godmother, my Mom's sister Bertha. I am happy that my Mother named me Beverly Jean and not Beverly Bertha!

Richard, my middle name, is a heck of a lot more common than my first name (Hermanus), although it is spelled "ree-KHARDT." It is a family name. My great grandfather who served in the Anglo Boer War was Hermanus Richard Lemmer. It is also my dad's name. If I have a boy there's a pretty good chance he's going to end up with that name too.
I think usually the second-born male gets that name though. I was a firstborn. My grandfather wanted me to have this name. If the nomenclature worked the way it was supposed to, I think I would have had 2 middle names and my name would have been "Johannes Jacobus François Lemmer" (my grandfather's name) and my younger brother would have had my name.
