View Full Version : Where's George? He's pulsing! - WhatPulse 2009

Hope it's okay that I've created a 2009 thread. Figured we might as well, even if we're not that busy.

Whaddaya say we try to get a big pulse together for Mr. Washington's birthday, February 22nd? It'd be neat if we had a nice boost to our numbers if we got a few million between now and then.

Hope all of you are typing and clicking away! :)

By the way, if you're just visiting this thread for the first time, WhatPulse is a program that counts the number of clicks you click, characters you type, and how far you move your mouse. Where's George? has a team there and we're nearing the top 100 list!

Click here to see the team! (http://whatpulse.org/stats/teams/8192/)

And if this piques your interest at all, let us know so we can help you get all set-up!

Glad you created the thread even though I am the first one to post. I am still clicking and typing away as usual. Although my pulses are set to happen automatically every 100,000 keystrokes. Let's see, I am at 85,213 as I started typing the number so it looks like another pulse should happen tomorrow. Fifteen thousand keystrokes is usually pretty easy in one day.

Wow, I just looked and unless something changes, I will be 14th on the team with my next pulse. WOOT!

I've been away from WhatPulse for a while (I guess since I was deployed) and never really got back into it after. I got back into it late, late December 2008, so here I am for two-double-oh-niner!

I don't totally get it. Can you 'splain in your own words?Folding@home uses your computer when you are not using it. Think screen saver, except scientific medical research rather than pretty pictures nobody sees.

They solve problems that would take a million days on one computer by using 100,000 computers for 10 days. The more computers we give them, the faster or the bigger problems they can solve. The Folding@home program only uses your machine when you are not.

The program is amazingly simple to setup and amazingly transparent and stable. No troubles whatsoever. Turn it on and forget about it, a bit like whatpulse. (Probably not intended for dial-up internet users.)

But I have privacy concerns... what kind of research are they doing?

I'll probably end up doing it, because my computer is pretty secure, lol... just curious.

But I have privacy concerns... what kind of research are they doing?Very good question! Click here (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Science) for the answer! I'll probably end up doing it, because my computer is pretty secure, lol... just curious. This is not a file sharing network. It is private one-on-one communication with the server, like WheresGeorge or WhatPulse. Nobody else sees your individual results except as you post their cumulative totals.

Over 2 million computers have been involved with about 250,000 computers presently active. It's OK. Lots of computer geeks have checked it out. I hope you go for it (http://folding.stanford.edu/).

Folding@home is http://folding.stanford.edu/

I just hooked up WhatPulse on my work computer (IT might kill me, but hey, I could be doing something worse.). I tend to do most of my typing here and "clicking" at home.

Are we saving for a big pulse again or are we on our own for now?

Well, I got just under 10,000 now, so if we're gonna start saving, then we should do it now.... or forever hold our peace.

I know! I was in the bottom 5 for the longest time until I re-started this during my brief Hanking in late December, early January. I haven't checked the stats in a while, but I do know that I've been crawling up the chart. :p

Just pulsed. Moved me to 59th in terms of keys and 18th in terms of clicks. That's the upside of having this on a computer my mom uses for playing games, lots of mouse clicks.

Okay, so I've decided to set a personal goal.

I will not pulse until I reach 1 million keystrokes.

Considering the rate at which I've been typing as of late, and the typing I anticipate on doing in upcoming weeks, I'd say give me about 2-3 weeks to fulfill this goal.

I'll keep you all updated.

I can't seem to keep myself from double-clicking on that little W, so I'm making my goal to hit the fourth place spot fairly soon. I'd love to see Holly come back, but after I beat you... okay? ;)

I need to get to Georging more...

I just realized, I let them take my old computer before I pulsed. I think I had a good 30k worth saved up. Now I have a new computer and need to download WhatPulse again.

This is a sad thread. :( But our team is doing great...

This team has 96 member(s), which have typed 380,144,043 keys and clicked 257,172,830 times all together.

The team holds 0.11% percent of all the teams/users of this project, and is ranked 111th

So where are you all?

Install, then add, or does it not matter? Also, tip on what to install (WhatPulse for Windows, 1.6.2.1?)?
