I personally like the rep point tool - Simply because its a nice way to say something good to someone.
It's a simple little thank you - nothing more nothing less.
at least that is how I view it.
I appreciate the rep points I have received.

Initially I was against it and was not unhappy when it when away. Since it's back and probably here to stay there is one change I would make to the system. I would pick a number, 10, 20, 25, whatever and cap everybody's Rep Power at that number. IMHO I just can not see that any one person's opinion, thought, idea, forum contribution, etc. is worth 10, 20, 50, someday (if not already) 100 times the opinion, thought, idea, forum contribution, etc. of the person who just made their 50th post and now gives 1 or 2 points.
Maybe now that the games are gone I just might have to start visiting here more often:D

I only rep when someone writes something that actually makes me laugh out loud or grab my chin and go, "hmmmmmmmmm?". So if you get a rep from me...it really means you were putting your A game on the floor. I hope to get the same from others...that way I know if my stuff is really funny.

To know the exact # of rep points you have, click USER CP near the top of the screen. If you scroll down some you'll see the last 10 people who repped you and their comments and total # of rep points.
If you go here: http://www.wheresgeorge.info/reptool.php
This will give you a list of all of your rep points and who gave them to you (but wont give you a total)

This is me too. Something has to really tickle me or touch my heart for me to give rep points. My most recent cool ones were for my foot-fetish post and for posting a picture of Darth Vader giving congratulations for an Imperial County (CA) hit that made somebody laugh in the Western Forum. (Ehh, I guess you had to be there.)

I find that just being myself is the easiest way to get points. A lot of people give them to me just because they're in a good mood. Major props to them.
Since it means something to me, I give them out for good reason. If you make me laugh, I'll give you a positive. If you say something really intelligent, I'll give you a positive. On the other hand, if you say something that's insulting, disrespectful, or just plain stupid, I'm not afraid to give a negative.
Some who received these negatives have written back to discuss the point. Many of these people have won me over and I've given them a positive to cancel the negative. Others just give a negative back in return. So be it.
Oddly enough, many of the negatives I've received have come from people with very high (inflated) rep scores. One of them had the nerve to accuse me of being a "rep bully," then give me three negatives totalling over 70 points. Doesn't bother me. I know who the point traders are and have no respect for them anyway. But I get a lot more positive points from the people that I do respect than I do negatives from the others.

I love to give a person a pos and say they are so misguided when they give you a neg! Then of course there are some people that were born misguided and will die misguided. :D

1) Right now I have 331 rep points. That's also the number that represents my neighbor's son's birthday.
2) I once got a positive and a negative reputation from the same person about the same thing. When I got the negative and he put himself down as "anonymous", I was tempted to private message him and tell him that his "anonymous" neg rep was not in fact anonymous.
3) I have received negative reputation only 3 times. 2 of them were within a 3-minute time frame.
4) I have never given anyone negative reputation.

Oh look, some juvenile gave me a negative with the following comment: "Kinda like these? hah hah" Worth -46 points. No wonder I have this person on my ignore list. He/she's probably going to give me another negative for saying this, which will do nothing but demonstrate his/her sheer pettiness and lack of character.
I've really put a lot of thought into this matter and come to the conclusion that the rep point system here is very flawed. The idea is good but the implementation is bad. The main problems are that the comments allow people to leave abusive comments anonymously. (I don't count the rep spy tool as part of this implementation because it didn't come with the bulletin board package.) And the weight factor allows people with high scores to bully other members with their negatives. When people can inflate their scores so easily, it becomes unfair rather quickly.
If I were designing this package, I would replace the system we have here with a simple thumbs-up and thumbs-down on each post. I would make each rating worth one point. I would hide the limits so that you could rate any post any time you wanted to. It would just take some time for all of them to count. Your score would be the number of thumbs-up you receive minus the number of thumbs-down you receive. No names, no comments, no biases, nothing to take personally.

...but I know I got most of them from the Horde. The spy tool has never worked for me with either browser. I have given rep, but only to the other Hordespeople or to someone who said what they said exceptionally well, regardless of whether I agreed 100%.
To be as crass as I possibly can, I don't understand the reppers that expect the sixty-nine. What you write gets you the BJ or it doesn't.

Speaking only for myself and not the Horde as a collective, I see Where's George and the forums as two separate entities. The tracking and the talking are unrelated for the most part. I, as a Horde member, would never do anything to adversely affect Where's George or Hank. The forums, however, are a playground and, within Hank's guidelines, I'll do whatever I please.:D
