On December 16, 1773, American patriots dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded the vessels of the East Indian Company docked in the Boston harbor and dumped all the tea that was on the three ships into the ocean. They emptied 342 chests of tea which was valued at more than 10,000 pounds. This event became known as the "Boston Tea Party."

The Boston Tea Party was a reaction to the Tea Act of 1773 that was passed by Parliament to save the British East India Company from bankruptcy. The Tea Act essentially eliminated all taxes on tea except the three pence Townshend tax. More importantly, it offered Americans tea at a lower price than that of the colonial smugglers. Hence, the British East Indian Company would be saved from bankruptcy, the colonial smugglers would be out of business, and the principle of parliamentary taxation would be upheld.

would something like this work on GAS? :D

well maybe dumping oil in the ocean isnt such a good idea we've seen the results of that....but lets come up with something better

If we as Americans could run our cars on coffee it might work.

I was listening to NPR the other day and there is a way to convert diesel engines to run on vegtable oil. If everyone did this some kind of "revolt" might be possible, but not untill then.

Sure, but ain't nobody gonna like it. Constructively, we could do the following:

Ride a bike
Walk
Use public transportation
Trade in the SUV for a fuel-efficient car
I don't see us as a society accepting those kinds of things unless gas becomes even more expensive. I was in Iceland last week and gas there was the equivalent of $8 a gallon and nobody showed any sign of giving up their cars. Until gas becomes so prohibitively expensive that people will actually change their habits, we're over a barrel. Uh, so to speak.

I can remember when cigarettes were $0.20 a pack. Look at what they cost now and do you think folks stopped smoking because the price was higher? Ha!

Folks in this country only like to complain about prices not actually do anything to change them. I, unfortunately, fall into that same bunch of folks. I will say that I have curtailed the amount of driving I do, substantially. I use to fill up at least once a week and now it's once a month.

The other part of this is that much of the way our society gets around is with cars. Bicycles, mopeds, and public transportation are just not well enough accepted here in the U.S.A. to make an impact on how folks go about their daily lives.

I wouldn't even have a place to hitch my horse in town, if I had a horse.:)
